Middle School Sports Banquet

SAVE THE DATE

May 20, 2024

Over 30 years ago, past president Sam Breuklander wanted to honor Long Beach's middle school athletes at the end of their schoolyear. For many middle schoolers, that will be the last time they compete in organized school sports. Sam's vision was to honor the team champions, boys and girls, in each division for each sport offered by all the middle schools in Long Beach.

The 2022 Middle School Banquet, took place on Monday, May 23 with just under 1,000 enthusiastic middle school athletes and families in attendance. For the first time the banquet was held in the Walter Pyramid on the campus of Long Beach State University. With the school district having expanded middle school sports into three divisions, we  outgrew The Grand, which hosted the banquet for so many years (and we are most grateful for that!).

All had a wonderful time, with hot dogs, potato salad, chips and cookies to munch on, sodas and water to drink, plus entertainment. The athletes also got to see themselves receiving their awards as they were shown on the big screen above the arena floor.

This is a Century Club funded event, free to the student athletes and their parents.  Donations were received from members and friends toward the cost of the venue, the food, the printed program and the awards. Huge thanks to Long Beach City College for a major contribution so all guests were treated to free parking on the LB State campus for the evening!

The University has agreed to be our host venue again, for the May 22, 2023 Middle School Banquet. Contact Keith Hansen, coordinator, via email to volunteer and/or donate items needed.

Check back later for pictures from the event.
